Employers are likely to be able to support the physical and mental health of their workers even more from the new year. From January 2025, a legislative innovation should come into force that will allow companies to take advantage of health tax benefits up to the average wage!
Lawmakers decided to listen to the voices of employees, employers and experts and came up with a change in legislation that will help take better care of the mental and physical health of employees. Health promotion is very much needed. Even the latest representative survey, the Employee Barometer, conducted by Up Czech Republic among more than 1 000 employees of domestic companies, showed that workers are not feeling at their best physically or mentally. And it is the companies that have a great scope to support them effectively. And it looks like from January 2025 this space will be even bigger!
Barometer shows that employee health is not the best
The survey focused, among other things, on the physical and mental health of Czech employees. Among the alarming information related to physical health was the fact that only 5 % of employees feel physically well. On the positive side, however, workers themselves are in favour of change and 93 % of them want to make a difference in their approach to physical health care.
Mental health appeared to be even more neglected. In this context, a full half of respondents to the survey said that their employer completely neglected mental health care. This is a great pity, because employees are interested in and need care. In fact, almost 40 % of respondents say that they perceive a negative impact of work on their mental health, for example in the form of stress, tension and reduced mental fitness.
Legislative change will bring benefits to all
If the draft amendment passes the Senate and is signed by the President, companies could newly use tax benefits to support employee health up to the average wage, which for 2025 is CZK 46 557. And it would definitely be a shame not to take advantage of it. Employees will get effective help and companies will not only get healthy and satisfied employees, but also prestige and reputation on the labour market. The existing possibility of using leisure benefits in other categories (sport, culture, education, books and recreation) remains, as does their tax advantage up to half of the average wage.
Support employee health with eBenefity
How can companies take advantage of this new tax benefit? The easiest way is through modern employee eBenefity. These take the form of an employee cafeteria, where employees can choose the leisure activity that suits them best and supports their physical or mental health.
Compared to their paper version, eBenefity will not burden the HR department with lengthy administration, and thanks to the Můj Up app, companies and employees will gain many other benefits and functionalities to support company culture and internal communication.
